Yes, we know summer is still a few months away (Ed: It is freezing this morning!) but we’re hoping by talking about it that it might arrive a little sooner.
What’s definite is that a BBQ grill goes hand in hand with our garden furniture, so we know a thing or two about what makes a good one.
And we’re kicking things off early with a top 5 rundown of our favourite BBQ grills for the upcoming summer 2023 season.
There’s some pretty serious kit here, so please read on if you want to up your grill game this summer…
1. Everdure FUSION™ by Heston Blumenthal
Whether you’re new to cooking on charcoal, or a seasoned veteran, you’ll love the simplicity and style the FUSION™ will bring to your patio.
It takes its name from the innovative fusion of charcoal and electricity, drawing on the best of both, to deliver the perfect BBQ experience.
As Heston says:
“From the subtly integrated rotisserie to the retractable power cord, the FUSION™ charcoal grill is the perfect balance of function and form, taking design cues from minimalist Danish design.”
Here at Lazy Susan, we say:
“If you like to see the traditional given a modern twist, then our money is on this absolutely stunning grill that effortlessly combines classic BBQ cooking and flavours with the convenience of a gas grill.”
2. GrillSymbol Naked Chef Charcoal BBQ
The Naked Chef is not from Jamie Oliver but a classic charcoal grill, built and perfected for no-frills BBQ.
However, don't let its simple no-frills appearance fool you, this is a BBQ that is constructed for serious grilling with only the best materials.
Made from a 3mm corten steel casing, it is designed to be exposed to the elements and maintain a stable temperature throughout cooking. Low maintenance those rugged good looks will only get better with age.
Lazy Susan Says:
“The traditionalists' choice might look simple but this is one serious bit of kit in a material that elevates it above your DIY-store BBQ. If you like to keep things simple and grill with charcoal, briquettes or firewood, then this is BBQ for you!”
3. Höfats Cone Grill
The Höfats Cone Grill is another that takes the humble charcoal grill to the next level.
Featuring an ingeniously adjustable grate, you can easily move the charcoal grate closer to or away from the food, giving you gas-like temperature control without sacrificing that all-important authentic BBQ taste.
Höfats say:
“The higher you move the charcoal grate towards the food, the more heat it gets. If you want to reduce the heat, simply lower the charcoal grate. As the distance increases, the air supply is reduced and the heat decreases. In the lowest position, the air vents are closed, you have the maximum distance between the heat source and food, and the heat is at its lowest. You can operate this intuitively, controlling the heat as and when you need to with one hand. Continuously adjustable between the minimum and maximum - just as effective and convenient as a gas grill - but with a 100% BBQ taste!”
Lazy Susan Says:
“If your after a great-looking BBQ grill for your modern outdoor space that’ll get you grilling like a pro, then this is the grill for you.”
4. Big Green Egg Grill
The Big Green Egg is another design that will turn heads but it is so much more than its quirky good looks. This is another serious grill that will transform the way you cook at home.
They have our imitators, but nothing can compete with the original. Their iconic design and patented technology allow you to produce restaurant-quality food in your back garden.
It comes as standard with their Conv-egg-tor and Stainless Steel Grid but you can seriously upgrade and pimp your egg.
They say:
“The Egg is so much more than a barbecue. With the Conv-egg-tor at your disposal (included with every EGG purchase), you can make pizza, hot-smoked salmon and sourdough bread. You can pull off astonishing brisket, pulled pork and ribs or just prepare for the greatest roast chicken of your life.”
Lazy Susan Says:
“If you are serious about your BBQ and you’ve got the budget, then this is grilling nirvana in our humble opinion.”
5. Bell Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 Digital Charcoal Grill and Smoker
The Gravity Series 560 Digital Charcoal Grill + Smoker by Masterbuilt is one grill where you can pretty much do it all - smoke, grill, sear, bake, and roast - which is what put it on the radar of the Lazy Susan team.
You can set the temperature on the digital control panel or your smart device and the DigitalFan maintains the desired cooking temperature.
Their GravityFed charcoal hopper will hold over 12 hours of charcoal and gravity ensures you have constant fuel to the fire.
It also features reversible cast-iron grates that are perfect for smoking or searing and in just 13 minutes this grill can reach 370°C.
As the team at Bell put it, you can:
“Master the art of charcoal grilling and smoking with Masterbuilt.”
Lazy Susan Says:
“As far as gas BBQs go, this one ticks all the boxes for the team here at Lazy Susan. If you want to cook BBQ like a pit master, then this is the bit of kit to do it on!”
