The Lazy Susan Furniture range is constructed from a high-grade rust-resistant cast aluminium. It's a durable and stylish choice for outdoor settings, but proper maintenance is the key to keeping it looking its best for many summers.
Here are our top 10 tips for maintaining and protecting your Lazy Susan furniture in 2025:
1. Clean Regularly
![1. Clean Regularly](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0805/1979/0932/files/1-Clean-Regularly-Keep-Your-Lazy-Susan-Furniture-Looking-Its-Best-In-2025.jpg?v=1736768122)
Frequent cleaning is simple to do but has a big impact on the longevity of your Lazy Susan garden furniture. Anything left outside will get dirty.
If you leave it outside uncovered, we recommend you clean it every couple of months or so if exposed to heavy dirt (such as tree sap, bird droppings, or pollution).
For our range, you don’t need any special cleaning solutions. Just a little washing-up liquid or car shampoo in a bucket of warm water with a sponge or soft cloth will suffice.
This will remove dirt and grime, prevent it from building up, and keep your furniture ready to use.
Always avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the painted finish.
For any stubborn stains, our How to clean bird poo off your garden furniture and How to remove tree sap from outdoor furniture articles have some great tips.
2. Protect Finish

Extra protection is never a bad thing, and for our garden furniture, we recommend a light coat of car wax. Just a basic carnauba style gives the best results in our experience.
It will reduce the frequency you need to clean by helping rainwater bead and run off (thus reducing the amount of dirt) and it helps to give the paintwork a nice lustre.
To apply, use a soft lint-free cloth to apply a light layer of car wax in a circular motion.
To finish buff with another clean microfibre cloth to give you a touch-dry finish and protective barrier against dirt and moisture.
Alternatively, in summer you can also apply an automotive spray wax (the type you spray on the car when wet) to add a layer of defence against the elements and prevent watermarks.
We tend to find they don’t give as nice a finish, but they’re a good option when just looking to give our garden furniture a quick freshen-up.
For a more detailed explanation of why this is a great step to take and a step-by-step guide to how we apply, please read our How to apply car wax to metal garden furniture article.
3. Prevent Corrosion
![3. Prevent Corrosion](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0805/1979/0932/files/3-Prevent-Corrosion-Keep-Your-Lazy-Susan-Furniture-Looking-Its-Best-In-2025.jpg?v=1736768123)
This is where our durable powder-coated finish makes the Lazy Susan garden furniture collection perfectly suited to the UK climate.
It is made from cast aluminium, which is strong, rust-proof, and rot-proof. It's designed to withstand the UK's variable weather conditions, including rain and frost.
We apply a tough powder-coated finish to the aluminium that not only looks beautiful but it further prevents the metal from oxidising.
Oxidation is a white powdery coating that, unlike corrosion forms to protect the aluminium, it just doesn't look very nice.
The only way this will happen with our garden furniture is if the paintwork is chipped or scratched and exposed to the elements for a prolonged period.
To remove oxidation, just mix up a solution that is equal parts white vinegar and water. Gently wipe off with a soft-bristle brush or cloth, then rinse and dry.
To prevent it from forming, repair chips and scratches in the paint (as per tip 7) and regularly apply a light coat of car wax after cleaning (as per tip 2).
4. Keep Dry

Keeping your Lazy Susan garden furniture dry will help to prolong its life. Many of our customers will leave their set outside all year round. It will be fine!
However, by keeping it dry, you will keep it clean, ready to use, free from watermarks, and prevent things like mould and mildew from potentially forming.
Use garden furniture covers or move the furniture to a covered area during heavy rain or snow.
Always ensure any cushions are removed when not in use, as while showerproof, they are not fully weather resistant.

5. UV Protection

With many materials, the sun is often more of the enemy than the rain. It can cause wood to split and warp, while plastics can face and crack.
Fortunately, with the Lazy Susan Garden Furniture range, our cast aluminium is designed not to fade, is highly UV-resistant, and offers excellent thermal conductivity.
This is something we looked at in detail in our Does an aluminium garden table and chairs get hot in the sun? article.
To keep it cool in summer, place your furniture in a shaded area, pair it with a parasol, or use a UV-resistant furniture cover (we find individual covers for the table and each chair are easier to put on/take off and stay secure better).
To protect our outdoor fabrics from fading in the sun, apply a UV protectant spray to shield the surface from harmful rays.
6. Check Hardware

This one is often overlooked. We don’t have a lot of hardware on our furniture but it is self-assembly, so always important to check. It is primarily stainless steel, so it too is rust-resistant.
We looked at the advantages of Ready-To-Assemble outdoor furniture this time last year and in that article, we highlighted the reasons why we ship it RTA and how best to assemble it.
Once built (and when used/left outside), it is also important to periodically inspect screws, bolts, and joints to ensure they’re tight and secure.
For a little extra protection, you can also apply a small amount of metal-safe lubricant to any moving parts, like the swivel mechanism or hinge mechanism on our Lazy Susans and Extension Tables, to keep them working smoothly and protected.
7. Repair Scratches

As mentioned, it is important to ensure the painted finish on our furniture is not compromised. If moisture is allowed to seep under the surface, it can lead to bigger problems.
Any chips or scratches, no matter how small the repair, are best addressed immediately with our Touch Up Paint that matches the original finish.
The video above shows you how to apply and our How to touch up paint chips and scratches on metal garden furniture article looks at the process in greater detail.
8. Bad Weather
![8. Bad Weather](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0805/1979/0932/files/8-Bad-Weather-Keep-Your-Lazy-Susan-Furniture-Looking-Its-Best-In-2025.jpg?v=1736768122)
With some materials, all weather is bad weather. With the Lazy Susan garden furniture range, our cast aluminium is made of tough stuff. It is designed to stand up to the sun, rain, snow, frost, etc.
However, one area where we would advise caution is high winds. They are becoming more frequent in the UK. Our furniture is sturdy but anything in the amber warning or above could easily topple a chair and damage it.
During a storm, it is best to store your furniture in a dry, sheltered location such as a garage or shed. If this is not an option, then move it to a safe part of the garden, cover it, and secure it.
Our How to protect our garden furniture from bad weather has some great tips for our range.
9. Avoid Harsh Chemicals
![9. Avoid Harsh Chemicals](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0805/1979/0932/files/9-Avoid-Chemicals-Keep-Your-Lazy-Susan-Furniture-Looking-Its-Best-In-2025.jpg?v=1736768122)
Avoid placing your Lazy Susan garden furniture in contact with or near any strong chemicals such as any patio paving cleaners or fertilisers containing ammonia that could damage the painted finish.
For any accidental spills from things like sunscreen, bug spray, or other products, clean the area promptly with washing-up liquid as per tip 1.
10. Revitalise

An annual deep clean at the start or end of summer is a good idea. A thorough cleaning and inspection to address any accumulated grime or general wear that needs to be addressed.
It will help prevent the build-up of dirt, grime, and other contaminants that can cause premature wear and tear on your furniture.
Garden furniture can accumulate mould, mildew, and bacteria, especially in our damp climate, so a deep clean will eliminate these harmful substances, reducing the risk of health problems for you and your family.
Slippery patio tables and chairs caused by dirt and grime can increase the risk of slips and falls too, so getting into a regular cleaning ensures a safe and enjoyable outdoor area. Clean furniture adds to the overall aesthetic appeal of your patio, making it more inviting for both you and your guests.
Our garden furniture can be expensive, especially with the larger sets, so it makes sense to protect your investment.
These 10 simple tips will keep your Lazy Susan garden furniture looking and functioning at its best in 2025 and for many years to come.
