Setting up a garden table and four chairs on your patio is a straightforward process but sometimes a fresh perspective can help you find a place that you might not have thought of or a subtle tweak can make that space function just a little bit better...

Here's our 10-step guide to helping you pick the best spot and get yourself all set up this summer:

1. Choose the Location

Before you buy a new garden table and 4 chairs it is important to decide where on your patio you want to put them.

Consider factors such as sunlight exposure, proximity to other features like plants or outdoor accessories such as a BBQ, and the overall flow of your outdoor space.

• Sun
  Do you prefer to sunbathe or relax in the shade? Consider the sun's movement on your patio throughout the day. Are there any nearby structures or trees that provide natural shade? If you crave both sun and shade, consider adding a parasol or a retractable awning.

• View
  Position your garden table to capture the best view of your garden, any outdoor features such as a pond or any views beyond. If you prefer seclusion, then pick a spot that offers the desired level of privacy. Think about the atmosphere you want to create. Would you prefer a quiet corner for intimate gatherings or a more open space that takes in the view?

• Flow
  Wherever you position your garden table and chairs, you must have easy access to your table from your home and other frequently used areas like the BBQ or kitchen. Avoid placing the furniture in high-traffic areas to prevent congestion and create a smooth flow of movement around your outside space.

2. Prepare the Area

Once you have a good idea where you would like the furniture to go, you've ordered and it is ready to assemble, before you begin, clear the chosen area of any debris, such as leaves, dirt, or stones, etc.

You can use a mild soap solution for stubborn stains on concrete or stone patios or a specialist patio or deck cleaner if you need to remove any mould or algae.

• Repair
  Inspect your patio for any cracks, loose pavers, or uneven decking. Address any such issues before placing your new furniture to prevent any damage or potential safety issues. 

• Level
  Ensure your patio surface is level. Uneven surfaces can cause your furniture to wobble or become damaged. Our garden chairs and tables come supplied with screw-in feet that can be adjusted for uneven surfaces.

• Seal
  Depending on the material of your patio (e.g. concrete or wood, etc), consider applying a sealant to protect it from moisture and stains. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct solution and application.

3. Assemble the Furniture

Assembling a Lazy Susan garden table and four chairs is quite straightforward, and it should take you around 1 hour to 2 hours max (15/20 mins per item).

  Lay out all the parts and hardware, organising them by type. Check that you have all the necessary components before starting.

• Right Tools
  Gather the tools recommended in the instructions. This may include screwdrivers, wrenches, or Allen wrenches. Using the correct tools will make the assembly process smoother.

• Start Assembly
  Begin assembling your furniture following the step-by-step instructions provided. Ensure that you follow the order of steps, as deviating from the sequence may cause issues later in the process.

• Get Help
  Some patio furniture pieces (such as the tabletop) can be heavy or awkward to handle alone. If the instructions recommend having more than one person for assembly, enlist help to make the process safer and more efficient.

• Stabilise
  Ensure that all parts are securely fastened and that the furniture is stable. Make any necessary adjustments to level the furniture on an even surface.

• Final Check
  Check that all components are aligned correctly, especially for furniture with moving parts like adjustable recliners or folding features.

• Test Movement

4. Position the Table

  Chairs can be placed along the long side on oval tables for larger groups or all 4 sides for intimate gatherings. Consider leaving space at the ends for additional chairs if need be.

• Square
  Arrange chairs similarly to a round table, ensuring comfortable legroom and space for reaching the centre. A square table creates a more formal setting but don’t be tempted to sit people on the corners.

Number of Chairs:

• Even
  Distribute all 4 chairs evenly for balanced visual weight and ease of conversation.

• Odd
  If you want to store one of the four chairs and place one side of the table against a wall.

Functionality & Purpose:

• Dining
  Opt for practical spacing that allows plenty of elbow room for comfortable eating and reaching for drinks.

• Relaxing
  Consider upgrading to our Jane or Kate chairs to give you a little extra width and armrests for added comfort.

• Combination
  Choose a layout that caters to both dining and lounging needs by pairing garden chairs with a garden bench and cushions.

• Spills
  Wipe up spills immediately, especially acidic or sugary substances on our white finish, to prevent staining.

• Storing
  If possible, store your table indoors in a dry, well-ventilated location such as a shed during the winter months. Our furniture is perfectly OK left outside in the snow and rain but this will just help to keep it clean.

• Covering
  If storing isn't an option, then use a breathable outdoor furniture cover specifically designed for cast aluminium furniture and store in a sheltered part of your garden or patio.

• Repairing
  Address any scratches or chips promptly with our touch-up paint specifically formulated for cast aluminium range. This will prevent any bigger problems and keep your table and chairs looking like new.
